Skoda, the Czech automaker is considered as a brand which provides luxury on a budget in India. It manufactures vehicles from mid segment to high end luxury vehicles priced upwards of 60 lakhs.  The latest offering from the company is the new Skoda Kushaq. This car has entered a segment where already there are a lot of options on offer from different car manufacturers like the Hyundai, Kia, Tata, etc. let us see whether the new Kushaq can stand up to its Skoda tag and know about the Skoda Kushaq price.

 The new Kushaq is designed to look pretty aggressive. It gets the typical Skoda language, to name a few, the slotted front grille, the Aggressive headlamps, etc. in the front, it gets the Skoda Crystalline LED headlamp setup under which DRLs are well integrated. Just under the headlamps, the fog lamps are placed. On the bottom, there are faux air dams. a black plastic cladding runs throughout the car. The dimensions stand at 4225mm, 1760mm, 1612mm (L X B X H). One thing to note here is that the height of the vehicle is less compared to its competition. The unladen ground clearance is of 188mm. This thing gives the Kushaq a sleek look. It also gets functional roof rails. On the rear, the tail lamps gets an angular look. Overall, the vehicle looks stylish and fresh.

Build quality

 Skoda is known for its build quality from the past. And here as well the Kushaq should will not disappoint its customers. The car is based on the new MQB-A0 platform from the Volkswagen group. The Kushaq has not been yet tested by the GNAP for its safety but according to some reports, Skoda itself has the said that GNCAP is free to test the new Kushaq and went up to say that this car is the safest in its segment. the car is well built-in terms of the fit and finish. There are no panel gaps, which is expected from Skoda.

Engine and transmission

1 L TSI and 1.5 L TSI engine

The new Kushaq gets 2 engine options, 1st is the 1 litre TSI petrol which produces 114 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque. The other is the 1.5 litre petrol which produces 147.5 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. Both engines come with 6- speed manual transmission. The 1 litre engine gets 6-speed torque converter automatic and the 1.5 litre gets a 7-speed DSG transmission.

Wheels and suspension

The Kushaq gets a front wheel drive system.  There are a total of 3 variants which gets different types of wheels. The base Active variant gets steel wheels which are 205/60 R16, the Ambition variant gets the same 205/60 R16 Alloy wheels and the top Style variant gets the 025/55 R17 alloy wheels with a different design. At the front it gets the McPherson suspension with lower triangular links while the rear gets a twist beam.

As Skoda is known for its luxury and the Kushaq’s interiors shows this aspect. It gets a dual tone dashboard which includes piano black on the centre and beige on the bottom. The infotainment screen is well integrated in the centre under which AC vents are there. A streamlined textured finish can be seen above the piano black finish.  It gets a two spoke leather wrapped steering wheel which gets piano black accents. The front seats get ventilation system and comes with perforation leather finish. The rear seats also get the leather finish. One can see chrome accents everywhere. one will get the premium feel of the interior. In terms of storage spaces, the 385 litres of boot space is deep enough to store a weekend’s luggage and there are also a lot of storage spaces available on the doors, dashboard, etc. A sunroof is also on offer but it’s a normal sun roof and not a panoramic one. It also gets wireless smartphone charging system on the Style variant only. In terms of HVAC, it gets the Climatronic automatic AC system with touch-based control.

Infotainment and Multi Information Display

The Kushaq gets a 25.4 cm touchscreen-based infotainment system. It gets a dedicated Skoda Play apps. The system can be controlled using touch or gestures. The infotainment system is integrated with 6 Skoda badged speakers and a sub-woofer in the boot space. The offline Navigation can be used where GPS signal is low and comes with 2D as well as 3D view.  Some of the standout features like the valet mode, which can record the vehicle movements when a valet is driving the vehicle. Coming to the multi-information display, it gets a very basic MID and even it doesn’t get a colour display. Basic information like, mileage, trip, odometer and cruise control parameters are displayed. It also gets the MySkoda connect feature which allows you to monitor your car unsing your smartphone.

Safety features

Here the Skoda is way ahead of its competition and not just because of the build quality but the electronics, or the mechanical safety systems used here are class apart. It gets a driver and front passenger, curtain as well as front side airbags. The last two are only available on the top variant. Electronic safety system includes tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control (ESC) across all variants, ABS with EBD, multi collision braking system, hill hold control, electronic differential locking, anti-slip regulation (ASR) and motor slip regulation (MSR), brake disc wiping and roll over protection, etc. The list is long which makes the car truly safe in its segment.

Price and conclusion

Skoda has price the Kushaq very strategically where it starts at 10.5 lakhs for the base 1 litre Active variant which goes up to 17.6 lakhs for the top 1.5 litre Style DSG automatic. one might think that a car priced above 10 lakhs with 1 litre engine is not worth to buy but what you get is the premium Skoda brand name, a strong build quality, premium feel, 4 years of warrant and a ton of safety features which adds up to the overall cost. The Kushaq directly locks the horn with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier. All of them sells in good numbers, the Creta being the best seller car India. The Kushaq misses out on some of the features which its competition offers but offers some other features which are practical in use. This car is for those people who want a car from premium brand and want a good build quality.
